This post is an ode to my long lost Zara handbag which I haven't been able to buy for a few agonising months now.
I have a clear picture of the bag of my dreams... black, structured, shoulder strap
And in my opinion, its the perfect bag for all university needs.
EXHIBIT A
The tote that I have endlessly been looking for is pretty much this (I found two super similar ones on the Zara website, but I'm loving the second one) :
City bag with pendant
City bag with zips
[For some reason Zara doesn't have an Australian website although they have been operating for several years. It maddens me deeply]
Features of the dream bag: black, zip pocket for a 13 inch laptop, structured, over-the-shoulder strap, gold metal embellishments.
I also really love the shape of these Zara bags, and I haven't been able to find any bags with this rectangular shape. Most are boxy or quadrilateral-ly shaped :(
If sighted, please report to me so I can file this case into my wardrobe once and for all.
Now, with my amateur sleuthing skills and specific criteria for black, structured, laptop-sized bags, I have found some debatable alternatives, but I haven't found any contender worthy of the highest honour. I have found it surprisingly hard to find similar bags.
I've put a few pricey ones on the list (ahem, kate spade, ahem) because I just love love the brand too much, so definitely not within budget (at least right now? I'm extremely hopeful for the future).

I feel (I mean I haven't felt it so I'm guessing) that this one is less structured than I would like, but it still is a viable contender with it's black colour, and inside zip.

It also has gold zips which is another plus, but ultimately NO LONG SHOULDER STRAP. NEXT.
I would say that this one is functionally the most similar one. It has a laptop sleeve, very structured like all Kate Spade bags are and its very elegant.

The only thing that's missing is an over-the-shoulder strap that is more convenient for carrying a bag around for long periods of time.
But I guess it being Kate Spade really outweighs that criteria, as well as the price tag.
I recently discovered the River Island website and I'm really enjoying just browsing through their clothing WISHING I COULD TRY IT ALL ON.
Here is a bag shaped really nicely. And it has the super convenient compartments inside yaaas. Plus I'm loving the colours: the maroon, tan and gold embellishments!
The only thing putting me off are the chained handles. EEEK one of my pet peeves for handbags. It makes the handles unnecessarily floppy and uncomfortable, even if it does add a bit more shine to the overall picture.

BACKPACKS
I am also on the hunt (when am I ever not) for backpacks.
Backpacks are also such a good bag type because they don't just strain one shoulder, unless you're too cool to wear both straps at the same time.
Of course Kate Spade also has backpacks. They're reading me like an open book.
Plus it has a dedicated laptop zip.
Just beautiful.

The first time I saw this backpack I thought 'yesss the perfect one'!
I came back home and looked it up online, thought 'wow it's still perfect'.
The next day, went to the shops again and was super underwhelmed because it was too soft and unstructured.

From being an impulse buyer and buying everything in sight, to an over-thinker that analyses each product until it becomes impossible to buy anything - I honestly don't know what's happened.
Anyway, here my spiel about my dream bag/s ends.
Hopefully one day I will be reunited with the love of my life, Zara City Bag with Zip or Pendant, but until then I will be relentlessly searching the internet and counting up my life savings until I have enough money to buy one more Kate Spade bag.
If you're interested in any of the bags I have ranted about, just click the name or brand of the corresponding bag and you will be redirected to the site! Not affiliated or sponsored obviously.
Enjoy your day! All the love N
