A Wednesday Morning

So I had a retention check (at the orthodontist) this morning at 7.45am. Snoozed the alarm 3 times because waking up on winter mornings at 6am is exactly 3 times harder.

It's currently 8:40am and I’m feeling accomplished. The plan was for me to get breakfast at a cafe somewhere, and then study, so I spent about 7 mins deciding, then eventually really wanted to find John Mills Himself. Give me an adventure in the morning and I’m coming.

I set off to find Charlotte street, and the antique book shop (as I google mapped it beforehand), and I found the sign for the cafe, motioning to walk inside the building. With a hefty amount of uncharacteristic confidence, I walked up 5 stairs into a white hallway. Once in the hallway, I saw no signs except one for a koala shop, so what does one do in this situation? One walks straight on.

So I’m inching my way down this 10 metre hallway, and then there are stairs to go down. With increasing hesitation, I step down the stairs at a snail-like pace. There's a sign right above me saying “koala shop downstairs” then I see “John Mills Himself” so I continue my efforts down the stairs. A person involuntarily (and thankfully) overtakes me, and she’s walking with unbelievable conviction, the way a human thirsty for coffee walks. So she’s my best bet and I follow her down another sterile white corridor that ends with a blinding light and a driveway.

But surely enough, there is John Mills Himself. Literal hole in the wall if I ever saw one. But I gotta say it’s a very hip joint.

I realise that there’s practically no room to sit, and the selection of food consists of a couple of danishes and croissants in a little glass container, so I just order a takeaway cappuccino.

What really astounded me there were the people working behind the counter.

The server looked at me with such kindness when taking my order, and the baristas were chatting away to each other like they were having the best time, and having so. much. fun. In that tiny coffee shop, there was so much sincerity and positivity. I'm so suprised by how much that affected me, so I am (figuratively) skipping down the city street, sipping my coffee while contemplating love and life.

I take the first sip of my coffee, and it tastes a smidge bitter. But it's not the bitterness of burnt coffee grinds, but more of the bean itself which gives it flavour. Oh wowww I am such a coffee connoisseur. The coffee is made absolutely perfectly and impeccably smoothly.

Oh I just realised that I had toast and a banana for breakfast at home, which is why I’m not dying of hunger at this very second.

--------------------

I’ve just finished the coffee. With cappuccinos you always get the chocolatey sprinkle flavour at the bottom of the cup, so that's the aftertaste you're always left with.

I’m off to snag the best spot in the library now. Ciao. Wish me luck with my studies because I really don’t feel like studying. Evidently.

All the love, N xxx
